I switched my dogs to Purina Pro Plan Complete Essentials Beef Flavor about three weeks ago, and I’m impressed with the results so far. While I’m not an expert on dog food nutrition, independent reviews suggest this brand offers average nutritional value compared to other options. Despite that, the enthusiasm my animals show for this food makes it a winner in my book.A word of caution: while this is labeled as a beef and rice formula, it also includes poultry, which is clearly listed in the ingredients. If your pet has allergies, it’s essential to do your research before purchasing. Another important note is the need to transition your pet slowly to a new food. It surprises me how many pet owners aren’t aware of this. Unfortunately, the sporadic availability of the last two dog food brands I used forced me to make sudden changes, which caused my dogs some gas and occasional upset stomachs. However, this has been a consistent issue with sudden switches, and I wouldn’t blame the food itself. The symptoms resolved within a week and a half.As for the taste, my dogs absolutely love it. They eagerly eat the jerky-style kibbles first before finishing off the rest, which they seem to enjoy just as much. Interestingly, it’s not just the dogs who are fans—my cats often sneak a few kibbles despite having their own wet food, and I’ve even caught flying squirrels sneaking in to nibble on this dog food. It’s wild that this food has such universal appeal!The most noticeable change since switching has been the improvement in my dogs’ coats. Their fur is shinier, softer, and—if I had to describe it—“fluffier” compared to when they were eating Kirkland and Nutro brands. The difference is remarkable, and I assume it’s due to the quality of the ingredients.Overall, I’m very happy with this brand and plan to continue using it for the foreseeable future. It’s a hit with all my pets (and even some wildlife), and the noticeable improvement in my dogs’ appearance confirms that I made the right choice. I’ll be sure to update this review if anything changes, such as the quality of the food or any notable differences in my pets’ health or behavior.
