I was nervous to buy these because at the time (last week) there were no reviews & I’m a review junkie. However, I found the identical shelves on another website & they got great reviews there, so I bought five of these bookshelves for my study. I’m so glad I did. I wanted something that looked better than the standard particle board and couldn’t afford five solid wood bookcases, and these really fit the bill. Each shelf holds 60 pounds, so these are real bookcases and not “display shelves” (I can’t tell you how many swaybacked bookshelves I’ve discarded over the years). The shelves are thick and the metal frames are sturdy The shelves and frames work together to make a sturdy construction. The idea is very much like the old board-and-block bookcases of my youth, but looks way better and is much more stable. These were super easy to put together, though you have to take your time and follow the illustrations carefully. I put all five bookcases together by myself (I’m a 64-year-old petite woman) and they were easy to move around. The only caution I have is if you’re bringing these upstairs, be sure you have a helper. The box weighs about 60 pounds. However, the weight comes from the shelves, so if you’re doing this solo, you might want to open the box and bring the separately-boxed shelves up alone. The metal pieces are lightweight. Packaging was excellent—loads of styrofoam padding, each shelf was individually wrapped in plastic, the metal parts all were encased in plastic, and the hardware was tied to the metal with a sweet red ribbon. All of the five boxes were exactly the same. The outer, shipping boxes were pretty banged up (shipping was by FedEx) but nothing inside was damaged. Oh, and the icing on the cake: They arrived a week earlier than promised.EDIT: I stuffed these bookshelves full. After a year-plus in service, they look fresh out of the box. No dips, slips, or sways. In fact, I'm back to buy two more.
