I was expecting it to be flat, but it has a slope. At the back its 4 inches and the front ends at 3 inches.. still works for me, but I would rather have it flat for my needs.. its very comfortable. I was considering buying a different cushion similar to this but its was $250 from a medical place! I paid $109 plus tax. It was well worth it! I have Fibromylasia and Arthritis joint pain.. this cushion has helped me be able to sit on my wheelchair upright for much longer and helps with the constant pain.
