About the Actor Juli K. Dixon, PhD, is a professor of mathematics education at the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando. Prior to joining the faculty at UCF, Dr. Dixon was a secondary mathematics educator at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and a public school mathematics teacher in urban school settings at the elementary, middle, and secondary levels. Dr. Dixon is focused on improving teachers' mathematics knowledge for teaching so that they support their students to communicate and justify mathematical ideas. She is a prolific writer who has authored and coauthored books, textbooks, chapters, and articles. She is also a lead author on the Making Sense of Mathematics for Teaching professional development book and video series as well as for the K-12 school mathematics textbooks GO Math!, AGA, Integrated Math, and Into Math. A sought-after speaker, Dr. Dixon has delivered keynotes and other presentations throughout North America. Edward C. Nolan is a master teacher with the UTeach program at Towson University in Towson, Maryland, supporting undergraduate students seeking secondary mathematics and science education degrees. He has 19 years of classroom teaching experience in both middle and high schools and was department chair for 15 years. He was also the director of mathematics, preK to grade 12, for Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland for five years. His research interests lie in supporting pre-service and in-service teachers to make sense of mathematics for teaching through what they notice and how they respond to it. He has been published in state and national journals and has presented at state and national conferences, including webinars for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and TODOS mathematics organization. Thomasenia Lott Adams, PhD, is associate dean for research and faculty development in the College of Education (COE) at the University of Florida (UF). She is also a professor of mathematics education in the School of Teaching & Learning in COE. She has taught undergraduate mathematics, undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation, and has served as a mathematics coach at the elementary, middle, and secondary levels. Dr. Adams has an impressive array of engagement in the field of mathematics education. She is a coauthor of Solution Tree's Making Sense of Mathematics for Teaching series. Her current professional activity includes serving as an associate editor for Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PreK-12 and as the mathematics program officer for the UF Lastinger Center for Learning. Jennifer Tobias, PhD, is an associate professor at Illinois State University. She specializes in elementary mathematics with emphasis on preparing prospective elementary teachers and developing their understanding of mathematics. Dr. Tobias received the 2013-14 Outstanding University Teaching Award from ISU. She has served on committees for the Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators and reviews articles for many national and international journals. Dr. Tobias has been published in numerous state, national, and international journals and has presented at several state, national, and international conferences. Guy Barmoha is the director of the Mathematics, Science, and Gifted Department at Broward County Public Schools, Florida. Over the past eight years, Guy worked as the elementary mathematics curriculum supervisor for Broward County Public Schools.Guy taught middle school mathematics for twelve years, as well as two years of mathematics distance-learning classes. He received the prestigious Edyth May Sliffe Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1997. In 2004, he was designated Broward County's Middle School Mathematics Teacher of the Year.
