Ideally, you want a brand new razor and an actual heat gun, but I used a hairdryer and I think I would recommend a hairdryer for other amateurs like myself. That is because it heats up more slowly, creating a more forgiving scenario where I am less likely to unintentionally char something near or behind my desired area. Honestly, I did not even use a very sharp razor blade, but that part of my approach I do not recommend, unless you are going for a rougher kind of look. I am using this on a guitar pedal, so it doesn't really have to look super pretty. Overall you are looking at a material that has that kind of cheap snake-oil vibe like a hatbox from a vintage circus or some trashy glam rock luggage. On my guitar pedal though it is perfect for blanking out the corny vibrant graphics, and providing contrast to the clear knobs I put on it. I give this product four stars because it provided the most affordable solution, with a finish that is more interesting than just a plasti-dip type of solution, or any other method for darkening my pedal graphics in a way that is reversible. This stuff is very easy to control, east to peel, easy to remove or reposition, and easy to melt with a hairdryer or even a common lighter. If you are disappointed in this product then I have to believe your expectations were too high or you simply misunderstood what this is.
