The title of this book is somewhat misleading as it would suggest that there is an explanation of "wizards, giants and trolls", but it is really a collection of folktales about such creatures. Some of these stories you will be familiar with, but many were first timers for me and my grandchildren: Nils in the Forest (A Danish Story), The Magic Book, Poet, Goblin and Donkey, The Giant and the Cobbler, A Pot of Gold, The Crystal Ball, Molly Whuppie, Pixie Visitors , Long Nose, French Puck, The Boastful Tailor, The Two Wizards, Snow White and Rose Red, Mother Holle .This book is a good size and it is full of illustrations on every page. The paper quality is not terrific, but good. Why it is called the Kincaid's book....is a mystery in itself. There is no place where the collectors name(s) or illustrator(s) are given. Though this is a second publication. But none of that detracts from the stories themselves nor the book in general which is sure to please young listeners or readers. The stories are short and can be read in one sitting, mostly within 30 to 45 minutes. Reading level would be around 5th to 6th grade. Stories would be understood and enjoyed by those 5 and up.As an adult reader for my grandchildren I enjoyed the fact that I had not heard most of these stories, so even though they followed the typical folk tale format, there was enough new material to keep me interested.Loved the illustrations (too bad credits were not given). All in all.....very enjoyable.
