The Life of Fred series is better then anything I've ever read. Forget Moby Dick, cast aside Little Women, Pride and Prejudice, all those classic acclaimed litteraly words of genuis. All of those books have nothing, NOTHING, on the Life of Fred.Like most sane people, I consider myself an avid hater of math. Math is a mortal enemy that I will never defeat, I would rather drop a fork pointy side down on my foot then do math. My hatred for math is growing and never ending. And yet...a light in the distance. Could it be? Yes, it was hope. Hope for my math grade, hope that I could get at least one passing grade...I was in aw. The light, the hope, it was books (hope consistently comes in the form of books, so HAHAHA, math). Not any books- it was the Life of Fred Elementary series.Life of Fred was so easy to understand. The math was very comprehendible, and just enough so that it wasn't overwhelming. I was immediately intrigued. Not by the math, no, but by...the story.Fred is a young boy, literally like a 5 year old, who works as a college professor. Fred's story was the most moving thing I've ever read. I laughed. I cried. I rejoiced. I felt emotions I didn't know existed, all because of Fred. I forgot I was doing math, because I just wanted to read more about Fred's life. I wanted to know why he never ate a single morsal of food, or why college students were being taught about basic arithmetic I wanted the answers. So I kept reading. And along with the reading, I was doing it. Math. I was doing math, on purpose. The unbelievable had happened, all thanks to Fred.If your looking for math for your child, GET THESE BOOKS.
